The primary reason is, it’s easier for a hacker to gain access to your text messages than it is to gain physical access to your phone. Google Authenticator is a multi-factor authentication app that generates login codes and is more secure than text message MFA. Without those codes, you could very well end up locked out of your online accounts. You must physically transfer your authenticator account to your new iPhone or Android before you wipe your old phone.ĭoing so will ensure you can still access your multi-factor codes and sign in to those accounts on your new phone. But what you may not be aware of is that if you use Google Authenticator for multi-factor authentication, this app and account do not transfer to your new phone. Transferring apps, photos, contacts, etc from your old phone to new is a pretty seamless process these days. You will need to set up the Authenticator on the new device manually. Now you will need to enter a one-time password or recovery code to view these.Īfter doing so, you will be able to view your recovery codes. This will take you to the Security Settings Page where you can select the option to ‘View Security Codes’ as seen in the screenshot below. You can also view your recovery codes by clicking ‘Your Account’ then ‘Password’ from the account page. Each recovery code can only be used once, but you can re-generate a new set of 10 codes at any time within your JetBrains account. You can enter one of these recovery codes in place of your one-time password to log in to your JetBrains account.
